How do you save the world?

How do you save the world?…with math!  At least according to a story written by Jessica that we turned into a musical for our Literacy to Life program.  Last week, we performed the writings of 3rd graders at Allan Elementary, a low income school Austin, TX.

It was a really great experience and the kids were very proud.  I talked with the teacher afterwards and she said that usually 4th and 5th graders have to be removed from assemblies because they become so disruptive, but for our performance, the students were totally engaged.  It is a testment to the program and the great kids we worked with this past semester.  Below is a clip from the performace from “Super Math Girl.”  Afterwards all the students were singing the theme song as they were walking back to class.  Who knew math could be so cool.  Enjoy!
