Literacy to Life: Watch a clip of a song that was written based on the poem of a 4th grade student

In the Fall of 2009 the Paramount Theatre’s Education and Youth Outreach program worked with nineteen 4th grade students at Galindo Elementary, a low income Austin school.  We then hired 15 actors to come perform the students’ writing for the whole school.  This piece is called “Black Heart Rising,” by Dharma Kleweno, age 9.  The song was arranged and performed by Jenn Hartman, a seasoned singer and song writer.  She is also getting her masters degree at the University of Texas for Drama and Theatre for Youth.
